Butterfly WebQuest

Using a PowerPoint, the recorder, and a digital camera, the teacher can create a slide show presentation explaining the life cycle of a butterfly.  In addition the teacher can narrate the presentation and have a computer center where students can view the presentation as many times as they need to. In order to assess the students, the students can create a drawing of the life cycle using the appropriate names of each stage.  Northside ISD (San Antonio, TX) has a WebQuest with a PowerPoint presentation and a Butterfly Research Guide that has already been created.

Parts of a Plant

Student can use Paint or another drawing program such as KidPix, TuxPaint (free painting program), or BillyBear4Kids Color and Paint online drawing softare to draw a plant and label its parts.  The teacher could also prepare an Excel spreadsheet where students can move the labels to match the parts of a plant.  See my sample.

Insects and Spiders

Students will compare and contrast insects and spiders by dragging tiles under the correct categories.  This activity uses an Excel spreadsheet.

Life Cycle of a Frog

The teacher can print out a blank life cycle of the frog from enchantedlearning.com and have the students fill in the stages.  The printout with the answers is found here.  Students can watch an animation of the life cyle of a frog (select frog in the Life Cycle drop-down menu).
